A longer observation window
The 2017 SCALE report randomized 2,254 adults with prediabetes and obesity, or overweight with associated conditions, to liraglutide or placebo alongside lifestyle measures. At 160 weeks, diabetes had been diagnosed during treatment in 2% versus 6% of the reported analysis groups. The time-to-event analysis favored liraglutide.
Who remained in view?
Only half of randomized participants completed 160 weeks. The authors explicitly noted that withdrawn participants were not followed after discontinuation. Serious adverse events were reported in 15% versus 13%. These details belong beside the favorable result, because a longer calendar does not restore missing observations.
What this means for duration claims
S7’s interpretation is to ask separately how long a study ran and how completely it observed its participants. This trial did not compare generic on-and-off cycles, so it cannot supply a cycling schedule. It also cannot establish permanent prevention after stopping. The explanation is based on the complete indexed abstract of an older, Novo Nordisk-funded study, not a newly published result or a treatment recommendation.
