Two related trials
Malhotra and colleagues compared tirzepatide with placebo for 52 weeks in adults with obesity and moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea. One trial enrolled people without positive airway pressure treatment; the other enrolled people using it. The main outcome counted breathing pauses and reductions per hour of sleep.
What changed
The estimated differences versus placebo were 20.0 and 23.8 fewer events per hour in the two trials. Gastrointestinal adverse events were the most frequent and were generally mild or moderate. Eli Lilly funded the research.
Keep the boundary attached
These results support a specific measured benefit in a selected population. They do not show that every sleep problem improves, establish a cure for every participant, or justify stopping prescribed respiratory support. Our explanation uses the complete indexed abstract; full text was inaccessible. It does not establish the safety or equivalence of products sold as research materials. The illustration is not clinical data.
